JoCo Cruise 2022 and Holland America COVID-19 Policy

Over the past few days, the JoCo Cruise Management salied on a Holland America Line cruise. In addition to enjoying Caribbean cruising's return, we felt it was important to see and experience firsthand the cruise line's updated COVID-19 protocols. We know it's of the utmost concern to everyone hoping to join us in 2022.

We were very happy with how seriously HAL (among other cruise lines) is taking their COVID-19 protocols, and how firmly they are prioritizing passenger and crew health and safety. The cruiseport and onboard staff were excellent and supportive throughout our boarding and sailing experience. Not only are pre-sailing COVID-19 tests required for all passengers within two days of sailing, but everyone was tested again upon reaching the cruiseport. And various improvements to onboard protocols (including food service, ship staffing and overall hygienic practices) were evident throughout. Most importantly: we can officially report that cruising still feels, you know, like cruising!

COVID-19 Policy for JoCo Cruise 2022

HAL's COVID-19 Guest Protocols page outlines their current policies and procedures. They also have an extremely thorough FAQ that outlines many details about their vaccination and testing requirements, boarding process, onboard health protocols, and more. JoCo Cruise will adhere to all Holland America COVID-19 guidelines for JoCo Cruise 2022. Although JoCo Cruise has added a COVID-19 section to our FAQ (covering some topics as they specifically relate to JoCo Cruisers), the pages linked above—especially HAL's FAQ —should serve as your main source of information regarding preparations for sailing on JoCo Cruise 2022.

We do want to call your attention to several important aspects of their current COVID-19 policy as of this email (Nov. 11th):

  • All guests must provide proof of vaccination—specifically, that they have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise. There are no exceptions to this requirement .
  • Additionally, all guests must also provide proof of a negative, medically observed, viral COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within 2 days of their embarkation.

Again, please consult HAL's FAQ for complete information regarding acceptable forms of proof of vaccination and pre-cruise testing information. Also, please note that while HAL's COVID-19 policies will apply to JoCo Cruise 2022, because we are a charter sailing, Holland America Line’s COVID-19 Protection Program does not apply to bookings on JoCo Cruise 2022.

We have already emailed those bookings that, according to our records, have one or more small children who may not be eligible for full vaccination in time for JoCo Cruise 2022. If your booking faces this situation and you have not received an email from us, please contact booking@jococruise.com immediately.

If you have questions regarding the current policy, please first consult HAL's FAQ ; it's extremely thorough and detailed, and should contain answers to most common questions about their COVID-19 requirements and procedures.

What If HAL's Policy Changes?

As noted in their FAQ, HAL's COVID-19 policies currently apply to all sailings through February 28, 2022. Some elements of their policies may change before we sail, but we don't expect there to be any substantial changes to the main policy requirements. Any future decisions we make relating to any HAL policy changes will be made based on the best available information and current science, and with the health and safety of all our passengers as our top priority.

Placement Requests

Per our last email , if you have any 2022 Booking Preferences requests (stateroom placement, bed configuration, and/or dinner seating requests), please get them into us ASAP. Technically, the deadline was November 5th, but we're granting a brief deadline extension for anyone who forgot or whose dog ate their homework, etc.
